GDPR worries about Fonts and JavaScripts are over, thanks to the new CDN features in 2sxc 16. May the force be with you...
What's wrong with CDNs and GPDR?
CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) are the backbone of the internet. They are usually used to get common files from all over the universe such as:
- Fonts (icons, ...)
- JavaScripts (galleries, ...)
- CSS (bootstrap, ...)
But they have a major problem: It's unclear which CDNs track your behavior - causing major GDPR issues. For example, many fonts are provided by Google Fonts - which is amazing, but can get you into legal trouble with the EU, since Google makes it hard to be sure they don't use tracking data for their own purposes. Here's a summary of the problems
- Some CDNs are not GDPR compliant - or you simply don't know
- If you use CSP (Content Security Policy) you may have to whitelist many CDNs
Overview
If this sounds like something you're interested in, here's the summary:
- we created an awesome solution
- the first part is a GitHub repo which contains all the resources used by 2sxc and most Apps
- the second part is a own CDN https://cdn.2sxc.org/ which hosts these resources
- there are instructions for you to create your own
- if you want to go free, you can configure each resource manually to point to where you want it
- if you're a Patron Sentinel, you can simply configure 2sxc to use any of these CDNs
💡 If you want to know more, read about it on http://r.2sxc.org/cdn
Summary
We created an awesome solution that can be used for free.
But if you love 2sxc and become a Sentinel Patron, it's even easier to use and it will remain maintenance free, as every update will automatically have all the new resources. So consider becoming a Patron 💖. As a patron, it's just 5 clicks to get everything set up (for everybody else, head over to the docs):
